A few years ago ‘advertising media’ was the default get rich scheme.  Some guy would see a space that didn’t have advertising on it, like the sides of churches, hubcaps, footpaths, dental surgery lights etc… and go “Hey, I should sell advertising on that and make a million dollars!”.  None of these schemes would work because no one is really interested in reading advertising written on the side of the coffin at the funeral they just went too, and even less people are interested in paying to use the space. This didn’t however seem to deter people from investing everything they had in the “brilliant new media opportunity” they just thought up.

What did stop them was the iPod.

Now the default money making scheme is “Hey! I’m going to make a million dollars by making something that an iPod can plug into!”
