I bet the “Always happy to help” line is in actual reality more like “Always happy to help except when it’s inconvenient for us to do so”.  Other then that this sign is fine.

  1. Its to do with british law. Supermarkets arent allowed to open before 11 on a sunday or after 5.

So after they have to close at some point on saturday to reopen on sunday and the same applies to closing sunday nights to reopen monday.

It is for all intents and purposes a retarded law based on the christian belief that sunday is “gods day” and that no one should work full hours that day and is a somewhat frustrating rule.

Its so easy to get used to it been 24hrs all week, that i often roll into asda (the supermarket aboves) car park at midnight on a sunday only to realise its shut.

    Anyhoo….

  2. Bless you and your strange ways Britain.

  3. Actually, it’s the law in England and Wales, not Britain as a whole (cf the Sunday Trading Act 1994 and the Sunday Working (Scotland) Act 2003).

The law in Scotland permits Sunday trading, and 24hr supermarkets like Tesco and Asda remain open 24hrs a day, virtually every day of the year, except for a couple of days closure at Christmas and New Years.

Before 1994, it was illegal to buy or sell goods on a Sunday, with only a few minor exceptions. Those crazy English!

  4. I just got schooled….

  5. Didn’t we all.
